A Letter from the Executive Director

Living With Autism, Inc. is a not for profit organization founded in January of 2011 out of pure love and devotion. As a parent of an adolescent with severe autism, I was confronted by the realization that my son was not going to receive a residential placement in North Carolina to meet his needs. Quality long-term living opportunities for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder are rare and openings in these facilities are nearly non-existent. The future for my son looked bleak until I realized that he and I could be part of the solution instead of part of the problem. I purchased the first group home and received a license through the Division of Health Service Regulation. My son moved in and two other boys immediately followed. In April of 2018, we have opened our second successful group home and are honored to have six amazing clients with us.  The boys are receiving the vital support they need to become more self-sufficient, independent and to maximize the acceptance of autism in the community. All of their needs including medical, vocational, nutritional, educational, psychological and recreational are met by the Living With Autism, Inc. staff, community professionals, autism experts and of course, family and friends. It is my hope that this is one of many Living With Autism, Inc. group homes!

Truly,

Hannah Hahn Ellis
